MAKASUTU CULTURAL FOREST
Makasutu is a palm forest situated on the banks of the River Gambia comprising many different ecosystem features including a beautiful forest, savannah and mangroves along the banks. With a pirogue (local boat) we’ll drift down the waters near the mangroves and you will get to see the most spectacular varieties of birds. We will moor at the tree top tower from where you have a wonderful view of the beautiful Madina bolong. After a short break with a drink and enjoying some traditional music or dance we continue on foot. Walking through the forest you catch sight of the wonderful flora and fauna and the guide will explain the use of different medicinal plants and trees. You will get to see different wildlife such as Baboons, Lizards, Red Colobus Monkeys, Bats, Velvet Monkeys and Squirrels. You can also get to visit local villages and take part in their daily activities, and best of all it’s free. After the Bush walk we drive back to the camp where lunch is waiting for us with the best African dishes.
